Hen Vaughan

Hen Vaughan is a writer, artist, and arts worker based in Tarntanya on unceded Kaurna Yarta. Over the past decade, they have collaborated on and presented projects spanning performance, exhibitions, workshops, walking tours, publications, public programs, community radio, and artist camps. 

As an audio describer, Hen has contributed to major theatre productions, exhibitions, and public events, with a practice grounded in situated and creative access at every stage of artistic process. Recent collaborations include multidisciplinary performance developments centred on embedded access and audio description through Arts House’s Warehouse Residency, led by Fayen d’Evie, and Windmill Theatre Company’s Indie-Mill, led by Ashton Malcolm and Elizabeth Hay.

Hen’s creative practice explores the aesthetics and poetics of in/visible illness, de/medicalised phenomenologies, and the affective agencies of hormones. In 2025, they presented Wearing.Opacities at Alta Forma (Narrm/Melbourne), an installation outcome of two years’ intra-dependent research with Debris Facility Pty Ltd, exploring wearable technologies, biomedical adornment, and concrete poetry for the body. 

Alongside their creative practice, Hen works across administrative, curatorial, and project-based roles. Recent projects include Guest Editor of Artlink 44:3, Hyphen (with Ava Lacoon-Robinson and Claire Osborn-Li, 2025); Public Program Curator (with William Maggs) for Sam Petersen’s Yucky at ACE (2024); and Project Coordinator for COMMON WORDS, fine print magazine’s peer-led writing program responding to the Biennale of Sydney (2024).

Hen is a former Co-Director and Chair of FELTspace ARI and remains committed to grassroots, artist-led organising. They are currently studying for a Diploma of Auslan.
