This winter, Carrick Hill will transform into a living work of art as the historic house and gardens come alive after dark in a breathtaking illuminated experience.

Inspired by the iconic designs of William Morris, this immersive nighttime experience will transform Carrick Hill through spectacular animated projections. Watch Morris’s iconic designs bloom across the house exterior as vines climb, flowers blossom and woodland creatures appear in a dreamlike world of light and imagination. Perfectly mapped to the architecture of the historic house, the projections unfold in a series of captivating visual chapters inspired by Morris’s celebrated patterns and connection to nature.

The experience is accompanied by a specially created soundtrack featuring Holst's The Planets, recorded by the Adelaide Youth Orchestra. Visitors will also hear William Morris’s poetry brought to life by acclaimed South Australian actor Tilda Cobham-Hervey.

Visitors are invited to wander through glowing gardens while enjoying a cozy winter atmosphere featuring mulled wine, hot cinnamon donuts, seasonal soups with sourdough, toasties and family-friendly options for children.

Running across almost three magical winter weeks this July, William Morris Winter Wonderland at Carrick Hill is set to become one of Adelaide’s most memorable winter experiences.

William Morris Winter Wonderland is an outdoor, all-weather event.

To visit Winter Wonderland, you will need to book into either a 6.00pm, 6.30pm, 7.00pm, or 7.30pm session via Carrick Hill’s website.

We recommend parking at Carpark A, the third carpark along from Carrick Hill Drive. Parking attendants are stationed to support visitor parking and wayfinding. There are two accessible parking spaces.

From Carpark A, travel past the cafe umbrellas, then descend, via stairs, lift or ramp, onto the main path towards the front of Carrick Hill House.

This path is initially narrow and brick paved, with open lawns to either side. After passing through a ticketing marquee, the path is slate flagstones of various sizes initially set in concrete then set in grass. The slates are unevenly set forming an undulating surface.

Continue around behind the house, onto a bitumen surface with some raised areas caused by deep tree roots.

Continue past the toilet block, gift shop, food-truck and cafe area, through to the Winter Wonderland viewing area, on the first terrace of several sloping grassed terraces, at the back of Carrick Hill house. From here, there will be a sunset view down over Carrick Hill gardens, and beyond to city lights and the sea.

Bench seating is available immediately to your right as you arrive in the viewing area.

Recorded audio description of Winter Wonderland can be accessed through Access2art's Events page, and via QR code, on-site at Carrick Hill. Activate the link as soon as music starts, to ensure the audio description is synced to the illuminations.

The audio description has been written and recorded by Catherine Fitz-gerald for Access2arts, and will run for approximately 20 minutes.

Hot food, drinks and gift shop items are available for purchase at the event.

Entrance from a service back gate can be requested from Carrick Hill, however, this is a drop off area only with no parking provision.

Please see Carrick Hill staff for any other access enquiries or support prior to, and during your visit.
