Event description

Join Regina Vagina on a tour of her favourite sites in the Steel City, Whyalla.

“That feeling of being the only one in the room like this … it’s all I know.” Ella Glendining was born without hip joints, and with very short thigh bones. Although she loves her body, and has, in her own words, “found ways to celebrate my freakishness,” she deals with ableism and prejudice daily.

In this self-directed, hyper-personal piece we follow Ella on her determined quest to find someone who her shares her rare disability. Through video-diary confessionals, family archive footage and beguiling interviews, Ella gently interrogates questions of self-identity and socialised discrimination while facing the challenges of motherhood.

At Access2Arts we spend a great deal of time talking about ableism, how to combat it, and how to self-advocate – or be a great ally.

When films like this take to the screen, they offer real insight and pearls of wisdom that can only be gained by truly placing yourself in someone else’s place.

We would encourage you to open your heart as you travel alongside Ella – and We promise when you immerse yourself in her journey, you will be saddened, delighted, and definitely enlightened.
