Amelia Rooney

About the artist

Amelia is an autistic composer and writer working across theatre and film in Adelaide. Their practice blends ambient and neoclassical soundscapes with strong narrative sensitivity. They are passionate about improving disability accommodations within the South Australian arts sector, drawing from personal experience to advocate for structural change.

Her debut play, BIMBO (2021-2023), received the Holden Street Theatres Fringe Award following its sold-out season in 2023, and their most recent work unmothered is receiving astounding reviews for it’s honesty and unapologeticness to discuss motherhood and inherited silence (2025-2026). Amelia’s theatre music credits include WHORE, dir. Hannah Smith (2024), Dance Nation, dir. Hannah Smith (2024), FIRST LOVE IS THE REVOLUTION, dir. Hannah Smith (2025), and THE SHOCK OF THE NEW IN ADELAIDE, dir. Chris Drummond (2025), as well as film scoring credits CRUSH (2023) and Nightfall, winning Best Feature Film at Bloody Mirror Horror Film Festival(2024-2025).

Amelia’s professional composition debut piece, THE TREES ARE TURNING OFF!, was commissioned by Chamber Music Adelaide in collaboration with MOD., written for string trio and laptop inspired by MOD.’s Forever exhibit (2025).

As a part of Access2Arts and Accessible Arts, Amelia is working on devising a new, breakthrough play through the Next Level Creative Mentorship Program, gaining crucial experience from State Theatre Company South Australia (2025).

Amelia is currently studying a Bachelor of Arts (Creative Writing) and a Bachelor of Music (Sonic Arts) at the Elder Conservatorium Adelaide University.
