Abbey Murdoch is a multidisciplinary visual artist residing and creating on Kaurna Country in South Australia. Her practice evolves into forms of sculpture and installation, where she constructs immersive environments and elements that encapsulate the essence of low-income housing. Through her practice, Abbey seeks to unveil the complexities of the home and low income housing, portraying it not merely as a physical structure but as a symbol of resilience. She intertwines domestic materials and objects, adorning them with layers of contextual purpose and connection. Each artwork serves as a testament to the lived experiences of marginalised communities, offering a platform for reflection, memorial and dialogue.
Abbey’s dedication has earned her recognition, including selection for the prestigious 2024 Studio Program at Adelaide Contemporary Experimental (ACE) in partnership with the Adelaide Central School of Art. This collaboration not only validates Abbey’s artistic practice but also provides her with a platform to further explore and expand. With a focus on storytelling and social commentary, Abbey Murdoch continues to push the boundaries of contemporary art, inviting viewers to contemplate the complexities of the human experience within the context of the lower-income domestic realm.
