Ben Paior-Smith (MC Gold) on the Heart Beat Club

Ben Paior-Smith (aka MC Gold) is a member of Access2Art’s Beats Crew and  one of the learning disabled DJs and Beatboxers who will be performing at the Heart Beat Club on Saturday, 14 December 2019 at MOD. Adelaide.

Below, Ben shares  his thoughts on the upcoming Heart Beat Club.

Tell us a little bit about yourself so everybody has the chance to get to know you.

I’m Ben. I am a musician. I love rap, pop, rock and hip hop. My favourite artists are RedFoo, Justice Crew, Q Da HypeMan and Rhiannan Roze.

How have yourself and the Beats Crew been preparing for the Heart Beat Club?

I’ve been working on my playlist. I have been getting my favourite clothes ready too. I already know what I’m going to wear – all black clothes with my bling hat with gold on it.

What part about the Heart Beat Club are you most looking forward to?

Well, I get to DJ, so that’s pretty good, plus I’m a musician, a singer and songwriter and rapper so that’s pretty much awesome. I get to spend time with my friends.

From your perspective, why is it important that the Heart Beat Club is run by and for learning disabled people?

Well since I am a musician with Down syndrome, I get to express my feelings and how I feel. You get to work on your talent and goals and dreams. Things in life is pretty hard for people with disabilities, but with me with disability it makes me more confident and a better life and make new friends. With and without disability.

Would you like to celebrate the talents of Ben and other learning Disabled DJs? The Beats Crew will be performing and releasing their debut EP at the Heart Beat Club – a club night run for learning disabled people, their friends and allies.
