Auslan Interpreting and Captioning

Access2Arts can make best recommendations on how to integrate Auslan interpreting and captioning into your art or event.

What is Auslan interpreting?

Auslan sign language interpreters are professionals qualified to interpret effectively and accurately for people who are Deaf and use sign language to communicate. The professional interpreter role is to interpret between spoken communication and sign language so that effective communication can take place.

During an Auslan interpreted performance, an interpreter stands on or at the side of the stage, clearly visible to the audience, and interprets the spoken word, songs, and sound effects for Deaf patrons who use Auslan.

What is open captioning?

Similar to television subtitles, Open Captioning is a system where spoken words are displayed on a screen, on or next to the stage. Captioning also includes extra information about sound effects and music to assist Deaf and hard of hearing people to fully experience the art.
