Auspicing
Sometimes grants can only be given to incorporated organisations (a legal entity) can apply for them. If you are an individual or a group of individuals it doesn’t mean that you have to give up on the idea of applying for that grant. You could still apply for it with the help of an auspice organisation.
What is Auspicing?
Auspice means to lend support to someone.
The Auspicee is the grant recipient, who are individuals or groups who are unincorporated organisations.
Auspicing means that your grant funding is managed on your behalf, and reported on to the funding body at the end of your grant.
Auspicor – an incorporated organisation known as an auspicing body
In the context of grant applications, an auspice organisation gets given the grant money to manage on your behalf.
Do Access2Arts auspice grants? Yes.
WHO can be auspiced by Access2Arts?
Access2Arts will auspice grants for Deaf and disabled artists and arts workers. We will also auspice grants for non-disabled artists working with Deaf and disabled artists if the project fits within our guidelines for best practice.
What can be auspiced?
Grants from funding bodies such as Arts SA, the Australia Council for the Arts, Carclew and Arts SA’s Richard Llewellyn Disability Program.
How do I get auspiced?
You must contact Access2Arts’ Business manager to talk about auspicing before you submit your grant application.
- Access2Arts will confirm if we can auspice your grant
- You need to include the auspice fee in your grant budget. Access2Arts will assist you to work out the cost.
- Access2Arts will give you a letter of agreement to say they will auspice your grant. Sometimes, they can sign your grant application.
What does Access2Arts need to auspice your grant?
If you receive a grant you will need to tell Access2Arts so they can arrange to receive money for your project. Before your project starts, Access2Arts will write an agreement that lists the services that are provided to you. Both you, as the auspicee and Access2Arts as the auspicor, will sign this agreement.
You will also need:
- A copy of your grant application
- Your grant budget
What does Access2Arts do as an auspicor?
Auspicing is to make sure your grant money is managed properly. This will assist the funding agency that gave the grant in meeting audit requirements and provides a safeguard for you as a grant recipient.
Access2Arts will keep track of your spending during the project by:
- accept the grant monies on your behalf
- pay grant monies to the auspicee in accordance with the conditions of the grant
- make sure that the grant money is spent matches your funding agreement.
- support you by keeping financial records on spending your grant money.
- provide a financial report for all the money you spend on your project.
At the end of your project, you have to give the funding agency an acquittal. The acquittal consists of the financial report and an artistic report for your project.
Access2Arts is NOT responsible for the artistic direction or the artistic quality of the project.
How do I use my grant money to pay for things?
You need to give permission to Access2Arts for all expenditure from your grant.
- payments can be made directly to suppliers such as shops or people involved in your project
- if you spend your own money on your project, Access2Arts will reimburse (repay) you
- you must supply an invoice for every payment you need to pay from your grant funds
What does auspicing cost?
Access2Arts charges a fee to cover administration, bank and audit costs. The fee is 10% of your grant money – the auspiced funds.
